In the hustle and bustle of modern life, finding a sense of balance and inner peace has become a priority for many. If you’ve ever wondered how to become a yogi and integrate this ancient discipline into your daily life, you’re in the right place.
Months 1-3: Start with the Basics
Begin your yogic journey by acquainting yourself with the basics. Attend beginner yoga classes in person, ask questions, and develop a support system to keep you motivated. Focus on foundational poses, proper alignment, and breath awareness. Develop a daily routine of short, guided sessions to build consistency.
Months 4-6: Explore Meditation and Mindfulness
Incorporate meditation and mindfulness practices into your routine. These techniques are integral to the yogic journey, helping to quiet the mind and cultivate inner peace. Start with short meditation sessions and gradually extend the duration. Mindfulness will enhance your overall yoga experience, both on and off the mat.
Months 7-9: Challenge Yourself!
You know the basics – now it’s time to branch out and attend higher level classes or “intermediate” classes. After about 6 months is when so many people start to drop off. They took beginner-level classes & felt great but were scared to take the “leap” to a class where people are doing things perceived as “scary” or “impossible”.
Month 10-12: & Deepen Your Practice
As you approach the end of your year-long journey, focus on deepening your practice. Challenge yourself with more advanced poses, attend workshops with seasoned instructors, and perhaps embark on a yoga retreat for a transformative experience. Reflect on the changes you’ve witnessed in your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
“Becoming a yogi in a year” is not actually a thing. Yoga is wayyyy deeper than just what we listed above. But, following the above blueprint can help you START and develop a plan. That’s exactly when we created our “Yogi in a Year” Program.
Program details:
🧘♀️ We have 4 levels of classes at Eden. Program participants will spend a quarter (3 months) at each level. This allows plenty of time to learn foundational postures, get stronger, and grow your confidence on the yoga mat.
🧘♀️ Community Support & Accountability: Participants will have access to a Facebook Group where they can share videos, ask questions, and just have the support of others with similar goals!
🧘♀️ Monthly check-ins with an Eden teacher. These 30-minute consultations can be about emotional/mental struggles as you move through the program; questions about a specific posture; or inquiring about suggestions on what classes to take, which mat to buy, whatever! 😊
🧘♀️ 10 Yoga classes/month
🧘♀️Quarterly posture clinic (workshop)
🧘♀️ Investment: $149/month. Discounts are available if paid in full or on a quarterly payment plan.
Please note that this program is focused on the physical postures and breathwork. Other areas of yoga, such as meditation and philosophy will not be covered in this program. If you are interested in learning about yoga’s history, moral code, chanting or a deep dive into meditation, this would not be the appropriate program for you. If that is the case we highly recommend you consider joining our upcoming 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program.
Finally, remember being a “yogi” is not just about mastering physical postures; it’s a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. By incorporating yoga into your daily life, you’ll not only enhance your flexibility and strength but also cultivate a sense of inner peace and balance. Remember, the key is consistency, an open heart, the courage to challenge yourself, and a willingness to embrace the transformative power of yoga.
Namaste!
